BURY
in
Lancashire

BURY has many claims to fame, the main one's being,Sir Robert Peel, founder of the current police, and the one and only Bury Black Pudding .
The "Shakers" are Bury's Newly promoted football team, they won the FA cup in 1906

Bury is a large sprawling town extending towards the Pennines to the east and Bolton to the west.
It is situated about 15Km. north of Manchester, and motor way access is the M66 and M62.
Many years ago Bury was mainly a cotton milling town, taking it's annual WAKES(holidays),the town would be dead then with few shops open. The mills have now long gone, replaced by retail parks as in a lot of towns and cities in the UK.

In the town centre is the parish church and the outdoor market is must for local residence, good
and inexpensive item's of all descriptions ranging from fresh vegetables to toilet rolls. The town has many parks, the largest is Clarence park with a boating lake and bowling greens. Tennis and many other outdoor sports are catered for. Our local newspaper is called "The Bury Times" and is
published on Tuesday and Friday.
