WHO OR WHAT IS THE BRITISH CITIZENs, BAND CONFEDERATION?
The British Citizens' Band Confederation is a registered corporate body, limited by guarantee (Ltd.). There are no employees, no rent to pay, and the officers are not paid. Formed by a determined group of CBers in 1997, the B.C.B.C. is now recognised by those in authority as being the representative body for Citizens' Band radio, which is controlled by its members and, established to maintain and improve the rights of its membership, to encourage good practices, and to bring improvements to the general CB Service.
NOW DO YOU MEAN CONTROLLED BY ITS MEMBERS?
People that joins us receive a very comprehensive survey/questionnaire. The answers prioritise the direction that our membership democratically dictates.
WHAT DO I GET FOR MY MONEY?
You get representation from the B.C.B.C. with the Radio communications Agency as it is the membership's collective views that we base our negotiations on. We will also take your individual concerns to the R.A. therefore givingyou the opportunity of having your voice heard at the highest possible level. You will receive quarterly editions of our own newsletter Infb-Mat which will keep you up to date with what is happening within B.C.B.C. and UK CB in general. As a method of saving your money, and therefore keeping subscriptions to a minimum, we also include as much as we can in the quarterly pack that sometimes includes special offers from our Corporate Members. If you are a licenced member you will also be eligible to stand for the National Council.
WHO CAN JOIN B.C.B.C. AND WHAT MEMBERSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE?
Anyone who has an interest in hobby radio is welcome to join the B.C.B.C. we make no discriminations, all we ask is that they be a responsible CBer. The types of membership on offer are as follows:
FULL MEMBER: Offered to CBers who can provide satisfactory proof (i.e. a photocopy) of holding a current and valid CB radio licence. As a Full Member you will be entitled to speak and vote at any meeting of the membership as well as nominate yourself, or other members, to stand for election to the National Council.
ASSOCIATE MEMBER: Offered to non-licensees which allows you to attend and speak at any meeting of the membership, but not vote nor nominate or be nominated for election to the National Council.
AFFILIATED MEMBER: Offered to Clubs, Societies or Organisations that represent CBers or have an interest in related subjects. All Affiliated Members can nominate two members to represent the body's interests (but no block vote) at any meeting of the membership.
FAMILY MEMBERSHIP: If all or several of the family are applying for membership then only 1 photocopied licence need be sent. However, all persons applying for membership must be living at the address that is on the licence. Please attach their details on a separate piece of paper.
CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP: corporate Membership is basically for the Trade. Current Trade members include:
Maplin Electronics PLC, Nevada, Pama, Radio Active Magazine, Sharman's, Waters and Stanton PLC.
WHY DO YOU ALLOW CBERS THAT AREN'T LICENSED TO JOIN?
Historically, CB was introduced into the UK and finally made legal through the actions of those early non-licenced but dedicated CBers. It is the intention of B.C.B.C. to educate and influence those that have no licence by showing them the advantages that CB as a whole can benefit from by having a healthy number of licensed users.
